Ivana Balabanova is a dancer, choreographer and interdisciplinary artist from Skopje, North Macedonia. Her broad artistic background interpolates the languages of her education and contribution in the hip-hop community that was later enriched with her education in contemporary dance. She is a 27 times international solo champion in urban dance styles and winner of multiple international and world dance competitions. She is currently undergoing her MA studies in Choreography at the ZHdK University of Arts where she is one of the three recepients of the “Excellence Scholarship”. As an artist she not rarely and courageously explores the possibilities with the team, space, art forms, always creating strong visuals for the audience.
Her students have been national and international champions at many competitions worldwide. Her artistic works include more then 20 pieces that were performed all over North Macedonia, Cagliari, Berlin, Sofia, Peja, Belgrade, Rome, Gran Canaria, St.Gallen, Zurich, etc. Her work Code#9 has been awarded 3rd jury prize at the renowned festival MASDANZA amongst 500 other contestants. Some of her latest works include the works: “Why Don’t You Cry When The Lambs Die?” (Zurich, 2023), “360 Degrees of Separation” (Konzert Theatre St.Gallen), “Liminal Body” (YCC, Skopje 2023), “My blood, my politics” (Skopje-Zurich, 2023) and she is currently working on her new big production “Remembering the future” which will premiere in Zurich in April, 2024.
